Visit Bath England – Known For Its Georgian Architectural Gems

The City of Bath England is founded around the only naturally occurring hot springs in the United Kingdom. It was first documented as a Roman spa in around 43 AD, although tradition suggests that it was founded earlier. The waters from its spring were believed to have medicinal properties. During the Roman period increasingly grand temples and bathing complexes were built around the springs, including the Great Bath. Rediscovered gradually from the eighteenth century onwards, they have become one of the city’s main attractions. The Roman Baths Museum gives a fascinating insight into the Roman complex that was here — you can see the ruins of the 2,000-year-old temple or drink the waters in the Pump Room. Part of the complex has recently been refurbished to provide a modern spa. In the tenth century, a monastery was founded at Bath England, but the Abbey as it is today was not built until the sixteenth century. Medieval Bath was a prosperous wool-trading town, but it was not. until the eighteenth century that Bath became the leading center of fashionable life in England. It was during this time that Bath’s Theatre Royal was built, as well as architectural triumphs such as the Royal Crescent, Lansdown Crescent, the Circus, and Pulteney Bridge. Master of Ceremonies Beau Nash, who presided over the city’s social life from 1705 until his death in 1761, drew up a code of behavior for public entertainments. Today Bath England is known for its Georgian architectural gems which are still beautifully preserved. The Royal Crescent is a magnificent curve of Georgian houses built between 1767 and 1775, only a short walk from the Circus. a circle of 30 beautiful townhouses. Many famous people have lived here, including David Livingstone and Clive of India.
